| LIMA, Peru (AP) -- President Alan Garcia said Peru has completed negotiations on a free trade agreement with China.
He made the announcement Wednesday with Chinese President Hu Jintao at his side.
It is China's second free trade pact with a Latin America country. The first was a 2005 agreement with Chile.
Hu arrived early in Peru for a 21-nation summit this weekend of Pacific Rim nations, including the United States and Japan, where the talk will be mostly about how to tackle the global economic slowdown.
Peru also announced that regular commercial flights can now begin between the Andean nation and China.
Trade between China and Peru has more than doubled from $2 billion in 2004 to $5.5 billion last year. |
